Shella Environmental Youth Group is a community-based organization rooted in Malindi Subcounty, Kilifi County, dedicated to restoring our environment, promoting climate-resilient food production, and protecting indigenous biodiversity. We work hand in hand with vulnerable members of our community: widows, young mothers, persons with disabilities, and the elderly to develop simple, locally-driven solutions such as kitchen gardens, organic farming, and the planting of endangered indigenous fruit trees.
Our community faces urgent challenges: growing food insecurity, environmental degradation, and the quiet loss of trees that once nourished us both physically and culturally. Without action, we risk losing not only vital natural resources but also the rich heritage, knowledge, and resilience that these resources embody.
We believe that when communities nurture their land and grow their own food using what they already have, they build dignity, independence, and a future deeply rooted in who they are.
